This is a picture I took of my parents. They have been married 50 yrs, but my mom suffers from Alzheimer's. Its so sad b/c her body is there but her mind is gone....she knows no-one but my father. He has lost his job, his house but not his everything b/c his everything is her. He has given up his whole entire life just to love on her and take care of her. People say their love is like that movie, The Notebook. He will die before he puts her in a home. He has SOOOO much patience with her b/c she can be very stressful at times and the way he reacts is by love. Their love is the ULTIMATE true love, the love you only see once in your lifetime (if you're lucky).
He was loving on her in my backyard and I grabbed my camera and snapped away b/c I want him to have this picture has a remembrance, after she passes. Everyone wants to leave something behind when they are gone and I've told my dad that he has taught the true meaning of love to so many... |
Congrats to our Runner Up Tom M. with his creative submission of wedding rings.

When people think of love what comes to their minds? For many, it’s marriage. Married people are examples of what love is truly about. Often they put their spouse’s wants and needs ahead of their own. They attempt to make their spouse happy because in doing so they are happy.
There are many symbols of love that we have been taught about, mostly through advertising. There are flowers, jewelry, chocolates, etc. But there are two symbols of love that I feel are far and away the most symbolic of love. One is the heart shape and the other is the wedding ring. If you asked a hundred people what one shape or symbol they identify with the word love, I would bet that the majority of them would say the heart shape. And all of us who are married know the wedding ring is a symbol of our eternal love for our spouse.
I have tried to portray this emotion in my image titled “The Two of Us”. When one first looks at the image he/she sees the rings. But upon looking closer one sees the underlying heart shadows signifying the love symbolized by the rings. |
Congrat to our 2nd Runner Up, Dawn M. for her
submission of love reunited and undivided.

This is what real love looks like…. My husband Sonny Malik and I have been together for about 34 years. However, we split up a few years ago and did not speak to each other for almost six years. During our estrangement Sonny nearly died. He spent several months in the hospital and was finally given an artificial heart. He was the oldest person to ever receive the heart pump that is inserted in him and now must wear a battery pack or be plugged into an electric base unit at all times. During his illness he became confused and requested that I go to see him at the intensive care unit, I believe he had forgotten that we were no longer together. I rushed to the hospital and spent some time with him. Once he was released from the hospital we began seeing each other. We are now once again together and will remain that way for the rest of our lives. We also learned that during the time we were apart neither of us dated anyone else. This picture was taken in September as we danced the first dance with our Grandson Kyle and his new bride Ashley at their wedding reception. We now happily spend all of our time together, many weekends we travel to the casino. Sonny will be 76 in March and hopefully we can share many more years together and never waste another precious day.
